Living in that apartment was probably worse then living in the cell, when you think about the living conditions. The sewage was always backing up through any water faucet, so you would be very ill-advised to try to take a shower, or drink any of the water, or even wash your clothes. There was no toilet; it seemed to have been stolen. But, living here, he had the one thing he needed more then anything else. He had freedom.
